Hello (Under)World

Hi.

This is Sean Markey, publisher of The Deadlands, here to introduce you to Psychopomp.com.

You probably have a few questions like “what is Psychopomp.com” so I’ll start there.

What is Psychopomp.com?

Hey, great question.

Psychopomp.com is an indie press.

We will start by publishing a couple of novellas per year, and eventually plan to move to publishing novels.

We are also the publisher of The Deadlands (which–nothing is changing, just: The Deadlands is an entity published by Psychopomp.com, instead of being its own independent thing.

Finally, we have a newsletter that will go out twice a month with interesting content (and essays by amazing guest authors!) related to culture, lifestyle, arts, and entertainment with a real gothy, deathy vibe.

You’ll definitely want to subscribe, which, conveniently, you can do right here:

We won’t do anything shitty with your data, just send you awesome content that you can unsubscribe from whenever you’d like.

So You Want to Submit A Novella

The next thing you may be logically asking–especially if you are a writer:

Submitting a novella sounds fun, how does one go about doing this?

Well, you can head right on over to the novella guidelines page and see what kind of work we’re looking for, and take the next steps in submitting a novella to us.

We’ll try and be quick in responding to these, but please understand that we won’t be as quick in responding as you’ve come to expect from our work with The Deadlands.

Who’s this “we” you keep mentioning (specifically in the context of novellas?)

Me (Sean) and E. Catherine Tobler (EIC of The Deadlands) will be acquiring the first couple of novellas. It is my intention to work with different acquiring editors for future submission periods to try and bring a diverse editorial voice to the titles we publish.

Elise has been amazing to work with on The Deadlands, so it felt like a really natural starting point for Psychopomp.com (and also she has been a GIGANTIC help in getting all this set-up, and bouncing ideas off of, so thank you Elise, you are THE BEST.

So You Want to Submit An Essay

    Good!

    We’re eager to read it.

Nonfiction will be published in our email newsletter, initially, and will shortly thereafter make its way to this site.

We’ve got a whole page dedicated to sending us nonfiction, and you can check that out right here.

It might be a bit easier to determine what kind of nonfic to send us if you read a few of the pieces we publish, but honestly we’re looking to cast a wide net here, so check the guidelines page and hit us with some great essays.

What Can We Expect From Psychopomp.com?

It’s very early. The website is nearly empty and we have no books to sell you. Yet.

So Why Launch With Such An Empty Room?

If you wait for everything to be perfect, you’ll be waiting forever.

We want to start the submission period for novellas, so we’re putting that out into the universe(s) now.

We also want to start sending off our emails and sharing the amazing nonfiction waiting in the wings, so we’re going live now.

Haven’t You Already Bought a Novella?

Yes! We are supremely delighted to be working with Shirley Jackson award winning author Christopher Barzak for our first novella. And we will absolutely be sharing the news of when it’s ready for you to check it out with our email list–yet another in a long line of ridiculously good reasons to sign up.

We’ll also be publishing our upcoming Year One of The Deadlands Collection through this press.

    What About Psychopomp Merch?

IDK about you, but wearing a hoodie or a hat with a giant PSYCHOPOMP across the front is something that’s been missing from my life. Yep.

And we will have them in our store this Spring, plus a bunch of other cool stuff.

So you can look forward to that. We sure are…

    ~

Well, I think that about sums it up.
